Dentistry is a big part of every day at YVC. We perform dental procedures ranging from cleaning to extractions, periodontal surgery, bonding, and more (visit the YVC Dental tab on our home page for more information).
Dentistry patients are admitted between 7:30 and 8:30 am. Most patients are allowed water up until the time they are admitted, and a small breakfast - about 1/4 to 1/3 of the usual amount fed in the morning. (Some recent research shows that feeding a small meal, instead of the conventional fasting, minimizes stomach and bowel upsets due to anesthesia. We have found this to be true in practice; also, our patients just seem to be happier when they have had something to eat before coming to see us!)
Discharge of dentistry patients is the same day for cleanings and the vast majority of other procedures. n the mid- to late- afternoon, when they have had the opportunity to recover from anesthesia and we have had the opportunity to assure that they are stable enough to go home. Patients who have very extensive procedures typically stay overnight one night.
