We see many patients as drop-offs - the pet is left with us for part of the day. Years ago, when we started to see drop-offs, it was a way for us to fit a patient with an urgent problem into our full schedule. While this is still often the reason, now we see many pets as drop-offs because it is an easy, convenient way for our clients to fit their pet's veterinary care into their own busy schedule.
Every dropped off patient is made comfortable upon admission, and carefully monitored while with us. Technicians and doctors evaluate patients soon after they are left with us in order to establish the urgency with which they should have their full exam and treatment.
We never do more than the examination without your permission. Once we have examined your pet we will contact you to discuss our findings and plan further diagnostics and treatments.
*There are some great hidden benefits to drop-offs: that we have the opportunity to observe the pet for longer than we would be able to in the exam room; many pets are actually act more anxious with their owners present at the exam, and are relatively much calmer and act "more like themselves" once they have had an opportunity to settle in with us a bit; and we can repeat our exam one or more times.
